That depends. If you are a yankees fan simply because they win a lot, and are even considering this, then you are not a true fan.
A real fan sticks with his team, regardless of the circumstances. Rather they win the World Series or go 0-162, you support them just as hard.

NO!!! Oh, my God, no! The Yankees are the greatest team in the history of American pro sports. Twenty-six World Series Championships says so. As long as the point of the game is to win, they will continue to do what it takes to win.
The problem with the Yankees now is that they are getting old. They had a hell of a run in the late '90s-early '00s, and it ended, and it's because everyone who played a big part in that left the team, left the game, or passed their prime. It happens to everyone.
Think about it--the playoffs, the amateur draft, the talk of salary caps--all happened because of the Yankees' dominance. For instance, do you expect any rational person to believe that the draft, which started in June of 1965, after the Yankees had been in the previous FIVE World Series (their SECOND run of five straight) was a coincidence? Think again. Just bide your time, and all will be well again.
Other teams have their "nations", but it is a Yankees World, and the rest are just living in it.

The Cubs haven't won since 1908, they have a lot of loyal fans. The Red Sox went 86 years between championships, they have a huge fan base. Just because the Yankees haven't won since 2000, you are considering not being a fan anymore??!! I'm a loyal Yankee fan, and I'm sure I speak for a lot of Yankee fans when I say we don't want fans like you. We want loyal fans who will always be there through the good times and bad times. How many teams get to the playoffs every year? Eight teams out of 30, and the Yankees are there every year. Go ahead, find another team, but don't bother jumping on the bandwagon when they win again!!

If you can live with the label of being a "fair weather fan", then by all means switch teams.
As for me, winning and losing are only a small factor in determining what teams to like and what teams to dislike. Of greater importance to me is whether or not I can like the player who is widely considered the face of the team. In the Yankees case, that player is Derek Jeter, and he's one of the biggest reasons, if not THE biggest reason, why I don't like the Yankees (because I added this, I know that some Yankees fans will give a thumbs down, as is their right... just as it's my right to share my opinion on Jeter).

My team is the Phillies. They have not been to the playoffs since 1993. They've won one world championship in 124 years of existence. But they are my favorite team and that will never change, just as you should never give up on the Yankees.

Well if they're you're Number 1 team or your only team, then no, of course not...I understand that you might not want to follow them during a losing season (for the yankees not making the playoffs is a losing season), but during that time you could try to follow another team or even other players.

Do you just go for the team that wins?
You're not a true fan if you do. Stick with your team, win or lose, cause when they win again, it'll feel even better.
I laugh when people do that because they just want to be associated with the winning teams. It's pathetic.
Why not just say "My favorite team is the one that wins" then you'll have tons of friends. NOT
But like the other guy said, Yankees suck anyhow, they buy wins, not earn em.

by way of actuality the difficulty-unfastened Yankee fan acts like each and each baseball followers ought to bow down on the altar of the pinstripe. real followers help their communities and ought to gladly element out their own fallacies as properly as distinctive communities strengths. The Yankees are wholesome for the 1st time this season. it incredibly is a lot with the money that has been dished out for this to have taken see you later to get it mutually. The media had each individual believing that they could bypass 162-0 by way of actuality they have a ability HOF at each and each place (media thought, no longer mine) The Yankees are actual the situation the pink Sox began and vice versa. nevertheless quite some activity to bypass yet a 6 activity lead with approximately 50 to play seems insurmountable desirable now. Yankees, Steelers, Lakers and Flyers have the foremost cocky followers of their events. it incredibly is why each individual likes to bypass after them.

Not a bit.
Look at Cubs fans...they're team hasn't won the world series in almost 100 years. They're still possibly the most loyal fans in sports history.
You don't switch teams just because they don't make the playoffs or win the championship.
