Absolutely.
And he has every right to read them. He owns the network and the equipment they were sent on.
You should have had more sense.

Since you are at work, your definitely cannot sue your boss for invasion of privacy like some people have said. If you look in your employee handbook I'll bet you that it talks about how they can read your e-mails and see what websites you go to, etc... At my last job they would block sites such as myspace.com, hotmail.com, etc so I couldn't do personal things during work.... how boring!!
As for firing you, I'm really not sure about how all that works... If you were just personally bashing him I doubt he could fire you. If you were saying that you were unhappy with your job, he may ask you why are you still here and he can maybe ask you to leave, but I don't know if that is a fireable offense. If you were leaking company information though, that he could definitely fire you for! Also, if he fires you, but doesn't fire any of the other co-workers that were also doing the e-mailing and complaining, then you could maybe sue him for being unfair/discriminating or something like that...
Either way good luck and I hope u don't get fired!!

First, I do not think giving your boss a sexual favor would improve situation.
Yes, you can get fired for this because the emails were most likely sent over the office's computer equipment.
Furthermore, employees should not be writing explicit emails about your co-workers.
As far as an invasion of privacy, you must have known that it was not correct to write these emails.
Just being honest.
I wish you the best of luck!

You have no right to privacy at work. None. If you've been using the company email system, your boss can read your email or search your desk and be completely within his rights. He can also fire you for insubordination, and as long as you don't have an employment contract there's really nothing you can do about it. The best thing you can do is be really apologetic, but you still may lose your job.

Yes, you can get fired for this. Although, I have done the same thing, sending personal email on company computer is not very smart. I try never to put something in writing that will come back to bite (if you know what I mean).
But we all make mistake - lesson learned and move on!!!

Ummmm Yeah you can get fired for it and chances are, you will (hence the meeting tomorrow!)
That is a no brainer! Next time, don't use the company's e-mail to talk bad about the company! DUH!
I am usually not this harsh, but that seems like something even a little kid would know!

It is not right of him to read your emails, but if it is an intranet network, then yes he has the right. Just tuck your tail between your legs, grovel, get on your knees, and pray your *** off tonight that he has a sense of humor. If he keeps you around, next time make up some story in your email, and say that you overheard the hottest little sweetheart talking about him and how she wants him, that will teach him to check your email. Good luck.

There is no implied privacy on a work email system. If you write it in a email on your employer's server (or even use their computer for personal use), he/she has a right to it.
The question you have to answer is...
If you had said at the water cooler what you typed in the emails, would your job be in jeopardy?

Sorry to say, but you are using their equipment and their time they are paying you to work. I believe someone at my work got fired for using the companies equipment for their own use. Better to use the E-mail for work only and if you want to gripe about other coworkers use your own computer at home to their home.
