Depends on your preferences of course; big, small, mtns, coast, etc. If you believe many of the travel magazines, Charleston SC is always rated in the top 5 in the country. Visiting and living may hold different appeal to different people. But I live there and it's pretty darn good.

I own a book titled "30 Great Cities to Start Out In...The Best Places to Live in your 20S and 30S" by Sandra Gurvis. Dallas is not listed. The top 30 are (alphabetically) Albuquerque, New Mexico, Atlanta, Georgia, Boston, Massachusetts, Charleston, South Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, Chicago, Illinois, Cleveland Ohio, Denver Colorado, Houston, Texas, Kansas City, Missouri, L.A. California, Louisville, Kentucky, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota, Nashville, Tennessee, New Orleans, Louisiana (note this book was published in 1997, this has probably changed), New York, NY, Orlando, Florida, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Phoenix, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Portland, Oregon, Salt Lake City, Utah, San Antonio, Texas, San Diego, California, San Francisco, California, Seattle, Washington, Toronto Ontario (Canada), Vancouver, B.C. (Canada), Washinton D.C. In U.S. Louisville had the best cost of living ranking, Charlotte had the cheapest apartment rent

I can tell you it's not Peachtree City, GA. Sure it looks like the perfect town, and it was voted in some travel magazine the eighth best place to live, but only if you like overzealous police.
