Many movies are R-rated. Why cant they just make it PG-13 or sumthing? I'm just wondering about other ppl's opinions, i'm not against R-rated movies or anything.

An R-rated film is more true to real life. The presence of nudity, violence, blood, gore, and foul language. PG-13 will dumb things down for younger audiences. I mean imagine When A Stranger Calls being rated R, now that would be a probably very good and scary movie, but it wasn't so it was pretty lame.

I think it's because a lot of people seem to think they can only take a movie seriously if it is R rated. They see PG-13 movies as being for thirteen year olds, even though that doesn't necessarily make sense. I try not to watch R rated movies unless someone I know has seen them and recommends one. I just don't want to fill my head with some of the garbage in some of those R rated films.

Some movies just need to be rated R. Not all subjects can be watered down to a PG-13 level (Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, etc.). The more restrictive rating allows filmmakers to more realistically tackle certain subjects, and therefore the films themselves are more powerful or affecting.

The ratings are there for a reason. some people don't want to see or have their kids seeing or hearing certain things. Why do we even have them? what is the good side of having R rated movies? Some people want to see and hear certain things when watching a movie.

I'd have to say the plots are much more in-depth than many PG-13 movies.
The Departed is much more extensive than say Italian Job. (Bad comparision though.)
Plus, most parents take younger children to see PG-13 movies thinking it'd be okay. Most R movies are much too intense for 10 year olds.

Good nudity
Good sex
Good violence
Good swearing
That's what's good about R rated movies

The whole ratings code as a whole is B.S. Watch a documentary called, "This Film is not yet Rated." It'll explain much better than I can here.

Well Rated R movies are better.. they allow more action, blood , sex and voilence...and of course they allow swearing ..It's more entertaining for us grown ups and it's better then watching most of the stuff for kids Hollywood puts out .

Violence, nudity, drug-use.

We get to live vicariously through actors and R-Rated movies are a way of doing that.

Plus, all of the above are fun to watch.

I like the way they juxtapose social context up against violence. It's a unique look into human nature and the way it is pitted against society. I also like the sex! Yeah boobs!
