Of course that it depends... depends on their qualification, depends on the job.
It could actually work in their favor. Say I were looking for someone to work at a hip bar or club. On the other hand, if I were looking for someone to work at a fancy place, I would not, no matter how qualified you may be. That is NOT prejudice. When a customer walks in a place, he has expectations as to how the service will be. He/she will also be looking out for "clues" as to the out come and will begin to form a judgment about the service experience based on these clues. A mohawk will send clues that can be positive (in that hip place) or negative.
What about if you won't be having contact with clients? It could still play against you. I am sure that you already have an opinion about this: that people only look at the exterior and not what's inside. True. But when you present yourself, you are making a statement about yourself. Like any statement, it can be true or not, nevertheless, it is your statement. A clean cut and formal dress says "I will not challenge the status quo, I am very serious about work and I admire you and want to be part like you". Of course, if an interviewee said that out loud, it would be taken with a grain of salt and should also be when he says it with his appearance. But then again, it's all about the little clues we pick up here and there.
On the other hand, if you show up with a mohawk, you are saying, "I have a very independent personality and I don't value your ways and am not conforming to them... take me or kiss my azz". That to can be a lot of BS. You can sport a mohawk and be a sell out wimp. But that is what you are saying about yourself and there is no big reason people should not believe you.

Well it kind of depends on what type of work it is. I mean if they are back in the warehouse or a type of work where no one would be offended by a person with a mohawk sure why not.
