The NCAA Tournament started yesterday, but the madness started the 1st week of March. If it was some time in February, you couldn't justify calling it "March" Madness. Also, all the conference tournaments start the first week of March in preparation for teams' final seedings. So although the NCAA tournament did not start the 1st week of March, the madness did.
