Oh honey.

He's probably been addicted to cigarettes longer than you've been alive. It's both a chemical addiction and a lifestyle addiction. He gets up in the morning and his body tells him he needs a fix. Later, when he has a minute of down time, his hands will be the ones to ask him to smoke.

Keep asking him. Keep hounding him. Don't let him smoke near you at all ever - not even in the car. He shouldn't have a moment's enjoyment. Take him to a hypnosis thing. Hide his cigarettes. And just laugh if he ever asks you to buy them for him.

He's going to get very mad - so be sure to toughen your skin to his yelling. You're right and he's wrong.

If he ever does get sick, you will at least have the peace of knowing that you tried - that you did not enable his addiction.

You've got nothing but an uphill battle. Best wishes.

Yes, he probably will get sick and no, sadly you can't help him. People only stop when THEY really want to. It won't matter what you tell him.

My mother smoked her way to an early grave - and lung cancer is not a pretty way to die. But even if you showed him the results of smoking in his lungs, he won't quit - not unless he's ready to.

Just tell him you don't want to breathe his second hand smoke, which the Surgeon General says WILL affect you - and may even kill you. Tell him he can kill himself, but he can't smoke around you, because you want to live a long life.

Just have a straight up father daughter conversation with him and tell him that its a great sin in the view of God and that hes a role model to you and tell him to try gum instead.

have him put a rubber band on his wrist, flick it every time he wants a smoke this will link the smokes as pain instead of pleasure. Thats how my adoptive dad quit!
