i own a repair shop ,and what you have to look at is if the car your switching actually came out with a standard shift if so then it can be done, not all cars can be changed over, some of them never was available in a standard shift ,so this would make finding parts for it really hard, but you have to look at it like this ,are you going to keep it,or sell it later on,because most people now days prefer a automatic,so if you do this do it right ,and you,ll be satisfied with it,otherwise if you cant find all of what you need it wont be worth trying to do this, either way its going to cost enough to do this so try and do as good of a job as you can on it,good luck with it,i hope this helps.

Automatic transmissions add value to the car. And as far as personal preference, manuals are fun, but they get old after awhile. There will always be times when you'll want a manual when you really have an automatic. It's just a matter of working with what you have, though.

There are pros and cons. The only real con I've heard about manuals is if you drive a lot (over short distances), which makes it more to do and think about. Depending on who you are and if you like driving a manual, that may not matter anyway. Manuals of course are cheaper and use less gas. Talk to people you know who've driven both, and see what they think. And think about the primary uses of your car. What makes more sense for your life? Is the re-sale value better? Maybe you can trade your automatic with a friend who has a manual for a week and see if you like it.

Depends on vehicle as to how easy or hard it is...

some cars the crankshafts have to be changed to go either way because the torque converter center hub has to have a proper spot to rest at the back...

crankshafts for manual trans have pilot bushing holes in center for the bushing and input shaft center support...

(Mopar's in particular of the rear wheel drive persuasion are a definate NO No... whole miriad of nasty worm problems...)

although automaticv tranmissions are both stronger and easier to drive...

I do not as an ASE Certified Auto Technician recommend chancing ity there are too many things to go awry and you can waste a lot of money and end up with a piece of junk nobody wants including you...

I do not know many people who wish to have a pretty nice looking 4 wheel, rubber tired rolling lawn ornament in their yard

advice is if you like that car but want automatic find identical car with the automatic and then sell the manual transed one..

I would say, 'Yes, but..." Depending on the make and model of the car replacing an automatic transmission with a manual one can be an afternoon's job or it can be a living hell. As a general rule, the older the car and the fewer options you have on it, the easier.

But manual transmissions are better on gas millage and performance (assuming you know how to drive one) simpler to repair, and IMHO make you look much cooler.

I personally learned to drive in an automatic. My first car was manual. Since then I have had 3 cars, all manual. If you enjoy driving and being one with your car, manual is the way to go. I definitely feel that it gives you the most control in foul weather. You can also use the power of your car to its top potential. Hope this helps in your decision!

Unless you are doing a restoration, I would trade it for a the same car with a manual transmission. It's better to have original equipment from the factory.

Manuals usually get slightly better gas mileage and are the right vehicle for those who love to switch gears or feel the sense of power.Automatics are very good if you are not a very good driver in traffic,or you dont like to bother with changing gears all the time and you want the car to do it for you.

im actually planning to do the same thing once my automatic transmission dies, because manual is much funner to drive, offers more control of the car, and saves money in gas and maintenence.
just go to a place that can do it and find out how much it costs for your car in parts and labor

i found on this civic forum that this guy did it all for 800 in parts and labor

Depends on the car. Sometimes a cars body structure can make it harder on the transmission if you switch it out. I'd leave it as is.
