If you notice, the ball doesn't make it to the 1st baseman. With nobody on base, the 1B isn't going to have to throw a ball unless it is an underhand toos or a lob to the pitcher on a groundout. It is a way to keep the infielders in the game, and also allow them to get a practice/warmup throw in when a batter strikes out and the other isn't in the box yet. Keeps their arms looser and heads in the game. Started many moons ago......

Not sure how it began, but they only do it if there are no runners on base to keep the infielders in the game mentally and physically. If you don't touch the ball for such a long time, when it comes to you, you will be unprepared and your arm might not be warm still.

I'm also not sure, it's been done as long as I can remember.

It would be wise to go to first base on the initial throw just in case the third strike is called a dropped third strike.

ya know i actually did hear how this started once-it was in an old interview and if i can find it i'll post it.

but i believe its not that old. it was something like in the 60
s where this started. could have been late 50 as well. but if i can kinda remember it had to..something like a high five...because ya know in baseball you can't always walk down the line to give props etc.

but i don't remember for sure.

nicely, i'm assuming that's comparable to after a putout is recorded devoid of adult males on base, the infielders throw around each and all the bases. that's to stay loose, only like the catcher desires to throw around to maintain his arm loose too.

it must be for wasting time until the next batter comes up other it would be boring waiting for the next batter and your defense might fall alsleep
