Hi, i'm curious about how much cereal should I add to my baby's formula in her bottle. I've heard and been told by many people to try this but I'm not sure on how much cereal to add.
She usually drinks about 4 to 5 oz when she eats, so how much cereal should I add per bottle?
Thanks :-)

None, putting cereal in a bottle is dangerous. It fosters bad eating habits early on. If you want to give your baby (who is at least 6 months of age) rice cereal, do it with a spoon.

My doctor told me that when the baby needs more than just milk then it's time to go to cereal but not to put it in the bottle. I started with just a 1/4 cup of cereal and mixed it with formula and spoon fed it to my son. At first he didnt like it because it was something new but after a little bit he absolutely loved it! He let me know when he was full by turning his head away.

I would add about an oz of cereal. My son has 7-8 oz bottle at night and I give him 2 oz cereal.

Get ready to sleep through the night!

edit* My son started this at 2 months, which my doctor told me too do, and solids at 4 months...

According to my doctor cereal shouldn't be added to bottles. When she is ready for solids around 6mo, cereal should be done with a spoon. They say its false that putting cereal makes them sleep longer. My baby is only on breastmilk (less filling than formula) and sleeps 12 hrs a night and has since he was 4mo old. Until 6mo she gets all the nutrients she needs from the formula.

Most health visitors / doctors will tell you (and it says on most baby food packets) you should never put cereal or any other weaning foods in a baby's bottle. It may take a little getting used to but if your baby needs something more filling you should try mixing a little cereal in a bowl and spoon feeding it to them.

First of all, why are you adding the cereal? Is it because of reflux, or do you think this is going to help her sleep better? If it is for any other reason then reflux, you should not add anything to your babies bottle without your doctors advice.

You should NOT try this. If baby is old enough to digest cereal (about 4 months), give it to her with a spoon.
