People in every other educated country on earth know it's undeniable, are we to believe the education system in the states is so poor that basic science is not taught? Or is it something in the water that makes them irrational? (the last is in jest, as I know there are many americans who are educated and intelligent and would never deny something as obvious as evolution...)

But to them (not Americans, anti-evolutionists) it's the truth -- it's the rest that are deluded. So, no, they don't realize they reflect poorly on the rest of us.

Yes, our educational system is a mess -- not just for science, but all areas.

Science (and the rest) is "taught" -- sort of -- but it's taught in a way that few actually understand it.

Evolution is especially not taught well, where its taught at all, so there's a lot of misconception, even among those who accept it. (And face it, evolution is brain-breaking and tricky and hard to grasp.)

In none of the subjects do student learn how to use that subject to help them understand some aspect of the world.

They are given lots of words, and expected to feed some of them back, are taught sets of steps to perform that have no meaning or (to them) purpose or context.

Thus, few really Learn; they just "perform" on tests.

They have no difficulty denying global warning and that is slightly more obvious.

Point of fact, I doubt they have any idea how their ignorance reflects on their country and if they do, they obviously don't care, it's what they believe.
