He studied birds and came up with some of the first theories on human flight using manufactured wings, came up with the first concept of the helicopter - rudimentary though it was, he is thought to have designed a mideival version of the modern day tank, he made advances in the study of anatomy, well known for his painting of The Last Supper and Mona Lisa.
