Very interesting :)

I would suggest comparing high frequency to low frequency music and seeing the collaborations in reaction between the two. Then I would try using different tones/pitches and comparing the results of how the fish reacted.

I think that if you compare the sound waves themselves to the types of music that create these sounds you may come up with something interesting.

If the music to music comparison doesn't work well, I would definitely try using a music to light comparement. You will definitely get some interesting reactions I'm sure.

For example: If you suddenly turned on the light in a huge trout fishery - all of the trout would simultaneously jump out of the water! Neat eh?

I posted some general resources to help you do your basic research. Good luck and have fun! :)

That sounds like a very interesting project! Why not try it on the cat fish too since they are in the tank too? Just see if they react any different than the barbs. I would try different volume levels and maybe with the bass booming or the bass off, several different ways for each song.

If you see them really react to a song, be sure to give then time to recover completely before trying another song or it might mess up your results.

It sure should work! I bet they will react to some songs more than others. I can't really find a website about similar projects, so I hope you will share the results when you finish it.

Best of luck!

I have worked with fish for years and I will be honest they are very simple minded creatures. They respond to physical vibrations and loud noises but so far as being able to tell a difference between christian and rock probably not. Also tiger barbs are not the most intelligent species of fish something like a shovel nose or a chiclid maybe but certainly not a barb. my only suggestion would be make sure the speakers have plenty of bass so that the fish can feel it. good luck

they will responed only to the vibrations through their lateral line. I would recommend using lots of water conditioner due to the stress the experiament will cause the fish and make sure you limit the amount of time the fish must endure the music/vibrations it will actually be throwing off their sence of balance/equilibrium if the vibrations are really strong, any fish that becomes stressed is more likely to become ill
