My aunt's name is Lynda, and I never thought it was so much older, because she is only about 37. Also, I never thought Audrey was old fashioned, until I heard people say it. I also love the name Theresa, but many people don't seem to like it, I don't see how it is so horrible to them. What are your opinions?

When i was pregnant with my son Steven in 1999, a couple people said to me, "Youre going to name him Steven? Thats such an early 90s name!" I love the name and never regretted naming him that. He's the only one in his class and i always found that as a good thing. You look at the names of the boys in his class and there's a bunch of Jacobs, Matthews and Michaels.
There are some names that work backwards. For example, I cant ever imagine an 80 year old woman named Britney or Courtney. They seem like little girl names. Regardless, girls who are named Courtney and Britney will eventually grow old.
Your child's name should only count of your (and your husbands) opinion. It doesn't matter whether someone thinks its old fashioned, plain, boring or too out there. Everyone has a right to think differently, but in the end it's your child.

I think that there is old fashioned names and out dated names.

Names that are just out dated are the names popular with the late 20s-50 crowd.

Names that were popular with the generations before that are coming back and are beautiful in my opinion BUT my grandmother cannot stand them because they sound like old lady names to her. :) She cannot stand Emma, Lilly, Abigail, Evelyn, Isabella....but she loves Amber, Dawn, Kenneth, Wayne....

Lynda and Theresa are names that I think are out dated. There is nothing "wrong" with them but they just aren't really in style now. It is your child and your preference so name the baby whatever you love.

It is a good thing we all don't like the same things. It would be a very boring place to live.

Names that I think are out dated besides what I said are Kimberly, Jessica, Stephanie, Kristin, Jennifer, Lisa, Patricia, Pam, Amanda, Terry, Christina, Dwayne, Dale, Donald, Johnathon, and Sharon.

Take Care,
SD

I like some of the old-fashioned names. Theresa (my mom's name) is one of my favorites. You could name a girl Theresa and call her Tess for short. Or Reese.
And yes, many names were much more popular in our parents' generation, but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. So you don't name your kid the same thing half the people int he neighborhood name their kid--It doesn't make you a bad parent. Classic names are wonderful, they've stood the test of time.

Lynda and Theresa were popular in the 50's, Audrey in the 70's.
Emily and Emma are old names that became popular again.
Alot of bible names are coming back too like ..Micah, Josiah,Noah,Delilah etc.
I personally like new ones that you've never heard before!

They are pretty names, I named my oldest daughter Abigail Grace, that's a pretty old fashioned name and I don't care. Besides, think of some of the more popular newer names like Brittany and Paris. It's hard to imagine many years down the road, having a grandmother with a name like that.

I like Audrey and it is old fashion but in a good way.
I like the name Evelyn but everyone says its old fashion, I think it just sounds elegant and classy.
How are names supposed to be new if no one uses them again and there is nothing wrong with a classy name.

My sister thinks that my children have "old-fashioned" names, that may be because her daughter has a crazy name with FOUR middle names!!!

Jessica Patrice
Isabelle LilyAnne
Madison Chelsey
Catherine MaryRose

Expecting Twins:
Quinn James or Vanesssa Lynne
Xander Nelson or Ella Justine

I agree. I love lots of names (like Audrey, Victoria, Isabella, Francisca, Natalie, Rebecca, Daphne, Elaine, Madelyn, Elizabeth, Rose, Lucille.....) that people find to be SO hideous or SO old-fashioned. Like, I love the name Miranda, with the nn of Mimi, but people really don't like both names. And also Willa, because I plan on naming my first child after my grandfather Walter, and I have always known Willa but have debated on a boy name. I finally decided on Caden, Logan, or Jason Walter but people hate all three, so I was going to do his name but that's REALLY old fashioned. So it's really a debate.

It bugs me too. I guess that when you ask for advice, you get opinions that bug you.

Do not worry if people think Lynda is an old fashioned name
I saw people call Jenifer an old lady name
Some people have no idea what is an old name
If you like an name, go for it
Congratulations
