Oh honey, don't worry about that. Such a young baby is overwhelmed by his environment and is just checking everything out. Besides, autism isn't diagnosed until a child is around the age of two..because there are no signs before then.
My baby was like that, too. Not only did she not make much eye contact, she didn't like being held. That freaked me out. She's 6 months old now and she smiles at almost everything I do and likes to sit on my lap and play.
Please try not to worry. You're little sweetie is just fine...he's just checking out his world.

He is one month old! It is perfectly fine. A one month old baby does not have good vision at all. They prefer drastic contrasts in color, this is what they see best, so they pretty much focus on the hairline when looking into our face. Don't expect him to look you in the eyes very much until his vision improves. Autisim would not really become appartent until about 14 months. It would show up as he is not pointing or saying two word phrases such as "bye, bye" or "me down."

When you talk to him and sing, he should respond. If you can clap, and offer him toys to the corner of his eye, and he doesn't respond you may have a problem. But a baby's brain is never at rest, exploring all the next ideas and people, so give it time. But you should consider visiting a doctor or the problem persists. Hope all goes well!

NO. Don't let that scare you. You can't tell any signs until 6 months or more anyway.

You might ask your pediatrician about it at baby's 2 month check up.
