We have wonderful emts and excellent emergency units here.
I hope that everything turned out good when you had to use
there services. I had one very sad experience when I lost a member of my family though no fault of the emts., they were
great. Firemen here are also very quick .

I live in a small province in P.E.I., in Canada.......I've personally never used the system....I have been involved in the nursing and hospital systems here....and from what I've seen and heard ..the systems works great....nearest available car would be dispatched normally police in neighbourhood..immediately followed by paramedics and followed by ambulance, emergency support and/or fire department/jaws of life or other necessary service.....
Average response time in most cases approximately 3-5 mins ..and obviously the further out in the country, factor in travel time...great question ...thank Nem....

Well I have had to call them for my mom when she was sick and took a few mins but the emt asked dumb questions about her condition. I knew she had suffered a stroke but a small one and she's done it before so I know. She was using the bathroom in her bed and that is not normal and then she asked the emt said, "maybe she just didn't feel like getting up?" If she was going to the bathroom normally before, why would she just decide to wet her bed b/c she felt like it? Obviously something wasn't right and she ended up having a real bad infection and was admitted to the hospital.

once. The the police and some volunteer firemen came while I was still on the phone. The EMS people were here shortly after. I live in a small town and in the country. They wouldn't take me to hospital that I wanted to go to cause they said that they had to take me to the closes one.

when i was little, my mom had left the door open a slight crack by accident. (the wind blows hard into our garage, so it will suck the door shut, even harder then someone can slam it). It made a loud bang and my mom thought someone was in the house. She called 911, and they were fricken here in less then 30 seconds. No seriously, i remember when she hung up, and 30 seconds later, i hear a knock at our door, with 4 or 5 policemen there.

OMG it was so scary, today my friend @ school collapsed in the middle of running a mile for P.e. class, i was so scared for her!! she was like frozen & couldnt move or talk or open her eyes, just lying in the bushes. but my teacher called 911 & about 5-7 minutes later the fire truck came in followed by the ambulance.
they took her to the local hospital & she came back to school a couple hours later but, omigosh, i was worried!
in answer to your question, yea the emergency response was pretty quick. good thing too
