The ozone layer not only protects us from harmful
UVA/UVB rays, but it prevents us from burning to death.
Once the ozone layer is gone, our planet and us as a civilization would no longer exist.

If there was no ozone layer, then the sun's radiation would go through and mutate the DNA of living creatures. The sun doesn't only emit heat and light, it emits ultraviolet rays and other kinds of dangerous radiation that gets blocked out by the ozone layer.
If the ozone layer didn't exist, then the sun's rays would have mutated the DNA of stable organisms a long time ago and humans would have never existed.
The ozone layer used to have a very large hole in it in Antarctica and smaller holes elsewhere on Earth due to human use of pesticides and chemicals that damaged the ozone layer. This was the case in the 1960-1990s, but nowadays, after the United States and other countries banned the use of such damaging chemicals, the hole started getting a little bit smaller. To prevent the layer from going away, mankind has to be careful using chemicals.

The ozone layer is high up above the earth in the Stratosphere. Ozone has the ability to block/deflect UV radiation from the sun.
You might already know that when you go up in the first layer of the atmosphere called the Troposphere, temperature decreases with height (because heat is absorbed at the surface, it is hotter than the air above), but when you get to the next layer, the Stratosphere, temperature INCREASES with height. This is because of the the ozone. This is because the base of the stratosphere has a whole big layer of ozone above it to block the radiation, and as you go up there is less and less ozone above it, so more radiation gets through and makes it warmer.
So, without this ozone, a lot more UV radiation would reach the surface, which basically means it would be too hot to live.
Hope this helps. =)

life on land does not actually need an ozone layer. but because the earth historically has an ozone layer, all current species have evolved with this environmental reality in mind. removing the layer in a couple of years instead of over many millenium puts species that are intolorent of high uv radiation levels at risk unless they can evolve quickly. other species will adapt to the new realities. humans will need to use more sun block.

The sun emits UV ( ultra violet rays) which reach the earth. Now UV rays are harmful in nature and can cause a lot of skin damage especially skin cancer, UV rays if watched directly without protecting your eyes might make u go blind. That's why you have UV ray glasses. What the ozone layer does is that is bolcks most of the uv rays from entering the earth. So if the ozone layer starts depleting we will be in danger. In fact it already has started to deplete.

The Ozone Layer helps to filter out radiation from the sun that would be harmful to us if we felt it directly.
