Take your hamster to vet for a skin scraping. Does your hamster constantly scratch or have some scabbing. This could be the beginnings of mange. Also if your hamster over 18 months, they are considered to be getting old. Older hamsters do lose their also. Getting the vets opinion is best for both of you, there are treatments for mange and hair loss due to other conditions. I've been through several cases of mange and of another cause of balding in hamsters in the past several months.

Addition: Hamsters have scent glands on their legs and will rub then to mark their territory, therefore causing some hair loss.

I am not sure how old he/she is, but as the get older (over 1 and 2 they do lose hair) if your hamster is younger he may have to do with his bedding or his food. Try changing his cage and try using something called care fresh its the best for bedding, if that does not work try changing his food, but you should also call a vet and pet store to see what they think this is. I hope he/she will be okay.
