I currently have my son in the Dore program in the US. He has ADHD, does not have dyslexia, but the program also helps those that do. Scott Quinnell, the Wales Rugby star and his two children, all very dyslexic, recently completed the Dore program. There was recently a BBC documentary following the family for a year going through the program. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6369479.stm
If you do a search, you will easily find many individuals posting regarding very good results of overcoming many dyslexic issues through the Dore program. Learning Breakthrough is a similar home-based program that is based on some of the same theories that you may also find iteresting to look into. Good luck!

Dyslexia cannot be eliminated but children can learn to read with the assistance of a very good teacher who has a lot of patience. Your child needs to understand that dyslexia occurs in students who are very intelligent so he or she simply must be determined to work very hard in order to achieve well. It is definitely nothing to be ashamed about but those who battle this see letters and words in a way that others do not.
Please read the book "Thank you, Mr. Falker" by Patricia Polacco. While it is a children's book, there is a lot of encouraging and enlightening information. The author was dyslexic and is now an incredibly successful author of children's picture books. This is her story and Mr. Falker was the teacher who had the key which unlocked the door so that little Patricia could be the person God created her to be. I wish you the best!

Overcoming dyslexia isn't really possible. It's a processing problem in the brain, so there is no "fix". Being able to take time and double check is probably the best tool in a dyslexic's arsenal. Also realizing they aren't alone.

Look into the "Scottish-Rite" program. It's the best program I've encountered for children with dyslexia.
