I went to the doctor Feb. 27 and found out that I was already dilated 1 cm and was having some mild contractions so my doctor put me on a medicine called procardia which is a calcium blocker to stop my labor and contractions. Anyway then I was currently 33 weeks and 5 days along now it's been a few weeks and i am currently 35 weeks and 6 days along and I that that I lost my mucus plug the other day and I have a doctors visit comng this Monday and that is when he says that he is gong to take me off bedrest which me put me on at 33 weeks and I was wondering if anyone thinks that he will also then take me off the procardia or would that be to early. It seems to me like he would go ahead and take me off of it or atleast I am really hoping that he will. But any insight on the situation would help if anyone has been in this situation before or just knows. Thanks anything will be helpful.

I had my daughter at 36 weeks. I was not on the medicine that you described but I had bed rest and complications. In early pregnancy I had placenta previa (which means that the placenta blocks the cervix). And then at the very end I had continuous unexplained bleeding and irregular and painless contractions and did not dilate properly.

My situation was different indeed but I just wanted to share with you that if you are taken off of this medicine then the labor may start on its own. So I would keep that in mind. Your baby will be perfectly fine at this point and you shouldn't worry.

I had planned a totally natural delivery but then with my problems and unexpected complications at the very end, there was no choice other than an emergency c-section. This may not happen in your case but remember that it is possible as you have had some complications. Be strong and you will be fine. But don't expect to deliver your baby tomorrow either. The baby will come when it's ready.

I have been through pretem labor and bedrest 3 times before. I was on medication also but I was on brethine. The doctor took me off both bedrest and the meds at 36 weeks. It is different for every doctor though. I know most will not stop labor after 36 weeks so stopping the medication would make sense at that time. You may not go into labor quickly though. I did but I know some women end up overdue after having preterm labor. Good luck.

he may or may not take you off the procardia. the risk to your baby is very low if it is born now, so either way, it really doesnt matter any longer now that you are nearly 36 weeks. most doctors would not try to stop your labor at this point except in rare situations
