How were the immigrants in the 1840's treated upon arrival?

Segregated from the public until they were sure they did not carry or bring over any diseases.

The same way every immigrant group has been treated.
Irish in 1840's were seen as a threat to American jobs as they would work cheap. The were also Catholic so people thought their loyalty was to Rome instead of the U.S.

When the slaves were freed in 1865, the Irish treated blacks bad because the Blacks would take Irish jobs.

When southern and eastern Europeans came here 1880-1920 ish, they were treated the same way

We now treat Latin Americans like this.

Same old vicious cycle and has been part of American life for a long time. Kinda funny that no group that was "going to wreck the country" has ever done so.

they were treated well since the usa at that time was saying that anyone who wanted to come here can at there own will
