Lj, old school was not created to appeal to a wider audience. Actually, hip hop was pretty much only a cultural thing until whites (no offense as they buy more of it than we do) picked up on it. New school focuses on foolishness like rims, blings, silly dances instead of real values like self-improvement. I have my 14 year old hooked on old school. Easy-E was not old-school, he was gangsta rap and actually was one of the reasons that "hip hop is dead."

The old school hip hop was designed to reach a wider audience and didn't contain as many swear words or hatred, so it can get more publicity and radio air play without having to bleep out the bad words. Also some of the old school stuff if really funny and creative, and stands the test of time! It's not based on responses to other rappers songs, it stands alone.

i'll be truthful right here. I dislike rap/hip hop. yet, it fairly is thoroughly glaring why previous is greater helpful than new. there isnt lots you're able to do with a drum device and rhymes. I recommend, this is probably getting tougher for 'artists' to make new sturdy stuff that folk like. Plus, those mentioned 'artists' want money precise? so they make the songs greater publicaly appropriate so they are able to be performed on the radio, MTV, etc. Eminem set the unreachable explicitness bar, and attempt to realize this is purely going to cause them to look liike they're copying him. this is all downhill from right here.

Old school is what I was brought up on...some of the new stuff is OK like Kanye West...but for the most part....old school had more meaning I guess.

old school still had a little bit of soul....now most songs are just a jumble of derogatory terms, degradation of women (and also by women themselves), drugs and shootouts. It's depressing. Just my opinion. :)

I love "old-school" as well... the beat and rhythm are way better than the new ones. That's probably the reason why!
SMILE!!!! =)
