I have to do a paper for my english class and i just wanted some feedback on what other people thought. Has anyone been tested? was it a random test or did your employer have good cause? Please answer. Thank you.

A good number of employers require a drug test to be employed. You take the test before you are hired.

The pro is, the employer has a right to hire people that aren't messed up on drugs, and therefore could be a danger to themselves or others on the job.

The con is, you have to submit to a drug test. However, it's your choice. You can call it an invasion of privacy and not give the test. However, they then have the right to not hire you too.

Mandatory it is not, You may always get another job. It is a condition of employment, if you want my money you follow my rules.
Do you want to have an airline pilot drunk, high, or impaired some other way?
Do you want the mechanic working on your car's brakes impaired? What if you are driving your friends home and the brakes fail?
The person at the drug store, did he give you the correct pill?
You can see the way I am thinking so I will stop the examples.
You see that all random is good cause.
I work for a large contractor and I am in drug pools for the Department of Defense, Air Force, Navy, Army, FAA, and my employer. I have been tested so many time that I have made friends with the testers. At the end of the week I get paid.

It depnds on how it's conducted. First, applicants and employees need to know that the employer has a drug-free workplace policy and employees are subject to testing.

Pre-employment tests must be conducted after an offer of employment has been extended and accepted.

The employer may also have a policy which specifies other times when tests can be conducted - if "reasonable suspicion" exists that the employee is under the influence, or in the event of an accident/injury at work, for example. Employees who regularly drive company vehicles or operate heavy equipment may be subject to periodic random tests.

Bottom line, the employer should spell out the policy up front and publicize it to employees so that there are no surprises later on.

Happy writing. :)

Mandatory testing is legal both before and after hire. I does have to be in the hiring contract before you start working. A contract the employee signs. I've had two jobs where-in I was tested prior to employment.

drug testing in the work place is not a violation of your privacy. i have been tested for my current job (i work at a hotel ) they send you to specific place to get tested. and My last job they didn't test me and it was also a hotel. i believe it;s just a matter of the company it;s self some company have zero tolerance for drugs and other just handle it when they are faced with it.

No, not at all. Firms have the right to know if you are a good risk for their business. In some firms they have the testing to help them lower their insurance premiums, or protect themselves from loss from the sterotypical crack head stealing from the company.

Some jobs require your co workers to be alert, on the ball, and if not, may be hazardous to your health. I don't want my heart surgeon whacked out on dope just before my surgery. If that is so, i am for it...but to test, just to test...is a violation of my privacy.
