Well, if you want your EMT, yeah, a first aid class may help you with some understanding. Now if you are planning on being an EMT, just remember one thing. People's lives may depend on your judgement. So you're going to have to study, and study until you know things backwards and forwards. This just may save the life of someone you know and love. Best of luck to you.

If you are just looking to take a casual first aid class, you should only have to take it once and if you pay attention, you'll take the test and pass it. You'll be certified in First Aid and you shouldn't have to take another class until your certification expires.

If you want to become an EMT, you will have to go to school and it is a very serious commitment. You have to commit to attend class, study, and practice your skills. Once you pass through an accredited EMT training program, you will have to either take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians test or your state's test to become "certified" and be able to work as an EMT

As another answerer said, you have to be 110% committed. Becoming an EMT is not a joke - it is a very, very serious job and a choice that should not be made quickly. The lives of seriously injured or sick individuals will be in your hands. And if you make a mistake, you could be responsible for someones death.

Best of Luck to you and I hope this information helps!
