Make sure the overall diameter and width of the tires are the same size as what you are taking off - for example a 15 inch, 65 series 205 tire (205/65/15) will have the same overall size as a 205/55/17. By keeping the size close you will have a minimal error on your speedometer. By keeping the overall size roughly the same no major changes are necessary - providing the offset/backspacing is the same.

Anytime you reduce the side wall (In this case from a 65 to a 55 - the side wall - distance from rim to tread - shrinks from 133 mm to 113 mm) expect a rougher ride. Also - anytime the rims get larger - this usually means more weight and more energy to stop or accelerate.

Go to a reputable tire store to get the tires sized right for your application.

If you already have the rims and they have 4 lug holes but your hubs have 5 lug studs, sell the wheels. They won't work. You just can't get 5 bolts through 4 holes, especially since only one bolt will line up with a hole if you try to put them on.

Otherwise, the Neon is quite capable of taking a 17-inch wheel and such wheels are fitted from the factory on SRT4 models using a 205/50R17 93Y tire size. So long as the wheel is the correct offset and of course bolt pattern, no worries.

bill c. is close, except the size 205/55r17 is not made. When you find a 17" wheel you like, the tire size you will want to use is either 215/55r17 or 225/50r17. both are Nissan factory approved sizes. i would suggest Toyo or Pirelli tires, though Nexen is a good brand also at a lower price point.
Good luck.

You can't put 4 hole rims on a 5 lug hub. You'll have to get some rims that have the same bolt hole pattern as your car. Good luck
