It is all the above. Homelessness, hunger. persecution, lack of opportunity. There is only 2 classes in Mexico. The very rich or the very poor. The very poor are those you see that as dangerous as it is cross the boarder illegally to work in the USA. It takes a long time, some times years to obtain a "green card". It's not easy for those that do not have the money to start with. The work is here for the migrant workers and they know it. Those that do make it across the boarder work hard and send most of their earnings home to Mexico to help support their families. It is a very sad living over there. There are people living in cardboard boxes and calling it home. I feel bad for them. And I am sorry for them. I wish there was some way we can help those that have such a hard time retaining a green card to work in the USA. If people would stop to think.... the migrant workers are a great asset to our country and if we help them in some way it would be to our benefit as well as theirs. That's the whole idea, if countries would work together and help when help is needed instead of turning to violence, there would be more peace in the land. Now I'm not naive enough to not see there are a few bad apples in the bushel. But again, if we all worked together, to be rid of the bad apples. We could have peace amongst ourselves. Isn't that what most of us want?

Extreme poverty (not necessarily in Mexico-- a lot of the illegals are only passing through from Central and South America) and corruption and horrendously low wages and no health care. It's easier for them to come here where all the heavy lifting has already been done than to try to fix anything in their homeland. Then they immediately try to change our culture to match the failed culture that they fled from!

poverty, corrupt government. things like that. if you go to the
World Factbook site run by the CIA you can see exactly how poor it is. I live right next to Tijuana, you can literally see people living in cardboard houses all crammed together with no electricity or plumbing. Many illegals are working here so they can send money back home so their families can survive. I think in Mexico the salaries are like 1/10 of what you can make in the US

It's everything you have mentioned, United States, the big if the biggest, The most respectful, and the one with the biggest power, everybody want to come to America, and everybody knows by now that even thou Latin America, it's beautiful itself, nobody wants to stay there, cause the presidents of each goverments only want their own benefits, money, and the poor gets poorer, that's in our case, I am Dominican, I guess other races that are here, might have similarity to these issues too.

Its simple, Americans are so blessed that they do not know what they have. The Mexicans who are coming over are building their lives and those of their loved ones back home from menial jobs that Americans would not touch because they prefer unemployment benefits. From these menial jobs many of these illegal immigrants move on to become successful entrepreneurs that then offer better jobs to Americans on the dole, tell me if this is not the "American Dream"

Poverty, no opportunities..just like millions who came to America in the 19th and 20th century. A desire to start a new life with enough money to support your family. That´s why America is a wonderful country : it´s always opened its arms to the needy. Let´s hope we don´t stop doing it with a border wall...

u need to visit there .. or any third world country and then u will understand ... the people are dirt poor ... they have nothing and no hope of ever having anything ..... u will fully understand the term "culture shock" when u visit a place like that ... i know i did and shocking living conditions and poor is the only way to describe it ... most americans take their way of life for granted and cant even imagine the plight of people from places like that ...

The mirage aka American Dream.
They come for a better life.
They contribute so much and when they are used, they get deported.
I know a couple illegal Canadians that had an okay life before they came, talk about them instead.

To make more money .
Then they send some of it back home to help their family.
Most labour type jobs only pay about $1 per hour in Mexico.
