There is a bit of controversy over this due to lack of information. We know that Native Americans were populating the island. When slaves were brought to the island disease came as well. The entire native population is believed to have been killed. There is a chance that some inter-marriage or related activities took place. The details are unknown by most. I suppose that a DNA test would reveal your own personal history, but the rest is just a guess. I would guess that the natives died too quickly to interact with the slaves in that manner. I am also guessing that any other race would be related to the slave owners instead. Just guessing.

I am part of the "Affranchis"(of french and african descent )minority of Haiti. The Affranchis were a product of the wealthy Frenchs slave owners attempt to wipe out the african race of Haiti for fear of a brutal slave revolt. I can trace my roots back to my great great grandfather who was a wealthy French slave owner in haiti, and my great great great grandmother who was an african slave from present day Bénin. Technically you are french because most of Haitian culture and language is influenced by the french . At one time evenbefore the spanish conquistaors arrives on hispaniola, haiti had two tribes of native people. one the Taino and the other the Caribe. these tribes were extinct a long time before the Africans came on the island. So there is no way any haitian living today be of Taino or Caribe descendant. I suggest you trace your family tree with the help of your family or a genealogist.

According to the CIA world fact book Haiti is:

black 95%, mulatto and white 5%

So it would seem to me that in all likelihood you are correct.

On a marginally related note:
There is a somewhat interesting anecdote about Polish soldiers that were left behind trying to suppress the slave revolt in a book called 'Lost White Tribes' by Riccardo Orizio. Though these "white" Haitians were truly mulattoes as you can imagine since soldiers clearly wouldn't be traveling with wives. They were just "white" relative to other Haitians.

I think what she ment by black indian is the following. Haiti is part of what is called the" west indies" but you are also correct in that Haiti was a French collony. althought there was more that likely some inter marriage with the local native population after the slaves revolted against their owners. so that may also be where the "indian" comes from. you should ask her to clarify.

Actual Haitian peoples are native Caribbeans (indians). The reason most Haitians are black is simply from sugar plantations and the importations of African slaves. They are also French because France colonized them and slave women in virtually all slavery situations were raped.
