No, it will not go away by itself and it will not hurt you if you touch it. A pair of tweezers and a steady hand will get it off your fish.

Here is a website that will explain how to remove, treat, kill anchor worms.

It says they must be brought in by an infected source, are you feeding live food to your fish?

It won't go away by itself. It could make your fish very sick if you leave it. No, it won't hurt you. You need to pull the worm off the fish. Net the fish, place it on a towel and cover it with the towel to hold it down and to protect the slime coat. Then pull out the worm with some tweezers. If you can't do all of this yourself, get someone to hold the fish while you pull out the worm. Put the fish back in the water and treat the water with a little aquarium salt or Maracyn to protect against infection. How fun for you! Good luck!

Are anchor worms a similar element as ick? I had that throughout my tank... the place you spot the white spots on a number of your fish and that they get relatively susceptible. there is belongings you are able to cope with the water with. some human beings say you ought to replace 0.5 your water out when you cope with it. Do what you like there tbh. If a small susceptible fish is contaminated - it will probably die. My extra effective improved fish fought it off. i offered my medical care stuff from walmart.

See you figured it out. "8" and VG have the correct procedure - you have to remove them with tweezers. Hold them near the base (close to the fish) so they don't break off. This critter lays eggs in the water (the eggs sacs are the two ends of the "claw"), so you need to treat the entire tank.

There is treatment info in the fishdeals website.

No it won't go away, you have to get it off. I hand catch, hold firmly and pull it out with a clean set of tweezers. Watch for more. What you see is an egg sack.
