It requires that the heart works harder. As a result the heart gets bigger until is outgrows its blood supply (heart disease). Additionally, the blood vessels operating at higher pressure are more likely to burst (stroke). Some organs, (especially kidneys) are damaged by the higher pressures.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

The reason this is of great concern is that if you are a young person and have high blood pressure for a sustained number of years you cause irreparable damage to your arteries near the heart, your heart valves themselves, and other vital organs including your kidneys. Most older people have long recognized they have high blood pressure and are treating it. However, for many it is too late and damage has been done to the heart and arteries and even vital organs. As a result of neglecting high blood pressure for many years an individuals life span is shortened. In many cases its made unbearable for the individual and his or her family due to a heart attack or stroke. One simply doest live a full life that one could with high blood pressure. Early death, loss of quality of life and a burden on ones family are the result of years of negligence of high blood pressure
