Closed shop. Union shop is similar, but it may hire non-union members, provided that they join the union upon hiring.

Closed shop was industry that required joining union to work there.But in the last few years several states have changed the law as they can not make you join if you don"t want to, called right to work law.Also these people who don't join receive the same benefits as paying union members.Unions have went down hill and are losing members as a result of this.Hope this helped answer your question.
