sometimes you need the right software to play dvd's or other formats on the pc, media player is ok for general stuff but will not play everything.
do a google search for codecs, i found a codec 'pack' that covered most of the formats.
for dvd's i would go for 'power dvd' or similar.
unfortunately cant remember the site i got the codecs from

The type of video file your trying to play is not supported by your media player, the codec is something it needs for it to be able to play it. You can download it, it probably says it will search for the codec itself? If not download Divex player..that will play almost any movie file out there.

If you're still having trouble the VLC player can play very nearly all formats (it can't play .flv as far as I know)

Get it here:http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
