I dont know about miami this year but its because of the east coast defense. The east coast teams are known for having better defense than the west. Also the years Detroit won they had the best record in the NBA.

Only two teams from the east have won the Championship since the 98' season. Miami got lucky cause they faced a mentally weak team while everyone underestimated Detroit. The west have won 9 championships. They have better over all players and teams.

That's a good question. I think it comes down to the west underestimating the east. especially when the conference as a whole is so weak. This year you know no one is going to pick a team from the east to win it all. But I wouldn't be surprised to see an east team win it all again.
BTW - It could be Miami but I pick Detroit
Also to Brett R when Detroit won in 2004 they had the 2nd best record in the east and were 6th in the NBA.

Teams from the west can beat themselves up, and then have to face an east team which had an easy road to the finals.
I'm not saying that this is going to happen again, but these things have gone in cycles throughout the history of the NBA

It could be that the West underestimates the East, but it could also be that the West is so competitive that whoever makes it to the NBA Finals if nowhere near as fresh as the Eastern Conference representative.
Either way, I see that trend ending this season with Dallas defeating Detroit.

The west have "more" better teams than the east, but that doesnt mean the EAST cant have the BEST team, while the rest of their conference is ****.

Ummm idk but its the same in baseball evry1 cried all year about how much the national league sucked then WAH LAH the NL won.
