It's not just that Caesar was killed on the Ides (15th) of March: in Shakespeare's telling of the story, he is warned by a soothsayer to beware the Ides of March; furthermore, Caesar's wife has a horrible nightmare on the night of the 14th, predicting terrible misfortune for him on the coming day if he goes to the Senate, and she pleads with him not to go.

He ignores them both.

He even brags to the soothsayer, when he sees him again on the 15th, that the Ides of March have come (as if to say, '....and nothing bad has happened to me -- shows how much you know!...'), and the soothsayer responds that yes, the Ides of March have come....but not yet gone.....

And before the day is over, Caesar is dead on the Senate floor.
