when she was a young child she was brutality raped and molested on numberous occasssions, by her step father. also she grew up in a time of segregation and racism. she was very poor and could not read or write for a very long time, but when she did learn she embraced it and used it to became to prolific writer she is today. her book when the cage bird sings has changed the lives of many men and women all over the world, and she has recieved a multitude of awards for all of her great deeds throughout the years.
