My wife and I both have a home based business, that we do part time and make any where from $800 to $1500 a month just working part time from home. Our goal is for my wife to stay home with the children our two girls ages 3 and 16. Right now it's part time, but eventually it will be full time for the wife so she can do the business and stay home with the kids.

The company has been in business for over 27 years, does business in 64 countries around the world, did over 3 billion $ in sales sales last year just from people working from home, and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

We got started here at http://www.herbalhomebiz.com Take a look, we both do the business and it's our answer to be able to stay home with kids and earn a nice income. Our mentor earns $8,000 a month just from working at home, and she is a single mom!

That is interesting. I had often wondered if those ads were for real.

I think the key thing you can do is to take on the mind of an entrepreneur. Be your own company with your own goals and seek others who's needs strategically support your own. One of the first steps is to take stock in your marketable skills and if you can not find a job (or business) that allows you to work from home, go out and get the skills (taking into account your innate interests and talents) you need to meet your goal.

Here are some suggestions I could think of:

1) Programming
2) Data Mining or On line Research
3) Maybe something related to counseling, legal, or accounting
4) You could look for a regular job where you can telecommute part time at first (possibly your current job). Then you could look for ways to gradually increase the percentage of telecommuting.
5) Consulting
6) Go into business for yourself (see everthing above).

Good Luck.

I really love my career and it is from home. I work for a great company in the healthcare field. I get a 401k and benefits plan. They have full training and support. It is mostly computer work with a bit of customer service. If you are the sort of person who enjoys helping others maybe it would work well for you.

Aww me too Amy. i wish there was too.
But I don't think there is any work from home jobs out there that is not a scam.

I've been burned by a scammer myself.

My ideal job would be to receive work via email or fax and do it at home and then when I finish, it will be sent via fax or email.
Or if certain jobs can have instant messaging, I would love that too.

You can sell insurance; disability insurance for example.

Maybe the US Dept. of Labor can help you with some other ideas. They have definitions and explanations of job titles and duties:

I would check with your local temp agencies they can be a wealth of information. You may also want to think about contacting your local physicians office if you have good typing skills, you could always transcribe medical records. There is always a need for that. Good Luck
