It seems that you can remove contacts, people you have put on the list. But I'm pretty sure fans are permanent, unless they remove you from their contact list. I agree though, that it's annoying that people can see what you're up to even if you didn't choose them.

it could have been an accident...the button sometimes covers the "answer question" button. I've done that a few times and had to fix it; he may not realize it.

you can. move your cursor over the person's avatar, and click "remove contact"
