Neither really.
He is a very complex character, and definitely very interesting because he has managed to keep us guessing and debating for 6 books now - JK Rowling's really developed his character amazingly.
I think he's on the side of good because he's always been loyal to Dumbledore, but I don't know which way he'll go in the next book. I'll just have to wait and see.
I hope he's not evil though.

The alternatives: (1) Snape is just as evil as Harry thinks he is; (2) Snape Knew Proff Dumbledore was dying an unpleasant death and was fulfilling a prearranged request made by Dumbledore that he kill him if it ever came to this situation. Dumbledore did say to Snape "please Serberus" and I don't think he would have pleaded for his own life, maybe Harry's, but not his own. If it was no. 2, killing Dumbledore would have given Snape all the credibility he needed with the enemy. He could be a very powerful double agent. We don't have long to wait for the next book.

He looks really bad at the moment after the last novel. I think funnelweb made some really good points that I hadn't thought of before though. Would be a really nice twist if he turned out to be one of the good guys after all. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

Bad, bad, bad. He murdered Dumbledore, the Killing Curse can't be done without meaning it. I can't believe Dumbledore planned to die just to keep Snape's cover, I mean old Dumbledore knew he was the best weapon against Voldemort, especially as Harry and co. don't know enough about getting their mitts on horcruxes and destroying them.

The best villain ever! He's not bad he's just sad for his past. Possibly killing Dumbledore was a part of a gran plan and he did it because Dumbledore ordered him to.
