ok so im white and 2 of my cousins like black guys and one is pregnant with a black dudes kid. 2 of my 2nd cousins and 2 of my grandparents are badly racist and i cant bring my black friends to family reunions because im afraid they will say something about black people in front of her. what should i do? not to mention my black friend is very kind and not all black people are alike and ignorant! i dont like it when people say they are!

Unfortunately, not many racist can be reasoned with or converted. First, be glad that ignorance is not genetic. (that would be terrible). Second, invite your friends anyway. Be proud of yourself and the company you keep. Just tell you grandparents that this is who you are and who you choose to spend your time with is your choice. If they cannot accept that, then at least you tried and your conscience is clear. Keep your friends and distance yourself from the bigots.

If these family members are set in their ways and probably won't ever change, then it's probably best not to bring your black friends to the reunion. It sucks but hey you can't force other people to change.

Im sorry, you cannot change your family.Explain this to your friends, Im sure they will understand because chances are they have family members who are racist as well.Racism runs in ALL races.We dont have to be racist tho now do we?
