I know they can vary but variations might have the same underlying need.

I personally feel that the light on makes me feel visible and vulnerable, but someone else might feel vulnerable if their light is off. I also like to wake naturally rather than with an alarm.

What provoked me to ask, is the subconcious or unconcious feeling of security and of thoughts of supernatural. But the whole subject is quite wide.

Yes, temperature is important. The whole equation for each person I bet is very complex and surprising. Quiet might upset some people though, does a baby sleep if it can't sense a nearby parent? But then some might sleep better if bullying parents are not nearby.

many factors affect an ability to have a fresh sleep, thing u may not think about!!!
Temperature of your room!
stop lyin in bed thinking of things,
darkness aids falling asleep!
quietness

I'm like you, have to have the light off, and wake up naturally, but I need to sleep with my bedroom door open other wise I feel trapped and would begin to panic. but all other doors have to be shut so I can hear if any family members get out of bed during the night,

light off n pitch black and awake without an alarm same here and my head under the duvet
