Wireless-N router? I have a Wireless-G router now, but was thinking of upgrading to a Wireless-N router, but I don't know the difference. On the box of the Wireless-N router (made my Linksys), it says my laptop needs to have a wireless-N notebook adapter, but my wireless device is internal, not an adapter.

So basically, how can I found out if my laptop will work with a Wireless-N router?

And please don't tell me what you THINK, or what someone else may have said... tell me what you KNOW. If you don't know, please move on to another question. Thank you!!!

The device manager for network adapters has three choices...
1. 1394 Net adapter
2. Intel PRO/wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.
3. Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.

When I click on the 1394 Net Adapter properties, it gives me lots of information, but it doesn't say one way or the other whether it's compatible with wireless N.

Wireless N is still a new technology and it is not yet the industry standard. Wireless N was even newer 6 months ago. Though I am not sure I would highly doubt that your Vaio laptop has a wireless N card inside. Though to confirm this you should be able to look at the spec sheet on Sony's support website.

That being said, from what i have seen of wireless N routers thus far, they are all backwards compatible with wireless G and wireless B.

hope that helps

It will work, but you won't get the full benefit if the internal adapter doesn't support N, although you may get better range nonetheless. Look up the specs for your computer to see if the internal adapter supports N, or right-click on My Computer, choose properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager, expand "Network Adapters" and see what the description for the wireless adapter says.
