Allergies. Change in the weather will bring on allergies that will cause the eyes to water and build up the dust and pollen in the eyes. Normal, don't sweat it. Get some drops for the eyes that help relieve the itching, redness and irritation.

At this time of year it could be one of two things.

1.) Allergies can cause this. What my doctor has me do when this happens is to wash my eyes with Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo - tear free - to get all the "goop" off the hair folicles.

2.) It could be conjunctivitis which is pink eye. My doctor had me do the same thing but to also use hot compresses on my eyes. So I take a wash cloth and fold it up to be just big enough to cover my eye or eyes. I let the water get as hot as it can then I put the wash cloth on my eye for a few moments. I do this several times a day. In a day I can tell the difference. After a few days I'm feeling much better.

Sometime I can catch this early enough that I do not need to go to the doctors for medication.

The reason for the shampoo is to clean the eye of the crusty stuff and get it off the eyelashes. The reason for the hot compresses is to get the oils to flowing again.

Hope this helps and that you're feeling better right away.

If it is pink eye, then be very careful with your wash cloths and towels. One wipe of your eye with the towel and then your dad uses the towel - boom! He will get pink eye. VERY contagious.
