It's actually next door's rabbit, who lives in our house during the day. He's friendly and likes to sleep on my knee whilst I tell a story to my children at bed time, but always ends up by biting my clothes. He doesn't bite my clothes at any other time. Is it a sign of being relaxed and comfortable? Is he "arranging his nest"?

(I have solved this by putting a bath mat on my knee for him to sit on! But I'd like to understand what he thinks he's doing.)

I bet he does it to make himself more comfortable. Rabbits like to rearrange things and this may be his way of doing it.

Sometimes rabbits groom each other by nibbling at their fur. Or he could be trying to get your attention. He isn't doing it to hurt you, but if it does hurt, you can let him know by making a noise to startle him. Next time he nips you say "Eeeek!" in a high pitched voice. It will let him know he's hurting you, and since he doesn't mean to do that he will stop. You may have to do it several times before he gets the hint. I did this with my rabbit and she hasn't nipped me since. Now she licks me or bumps me with her nose instead.

If you are cuddling him and playing with him, he gets comfortable and lies on your knee. After a while, he realizes that either you are no longer stroking him, or not giving him any more attention, so he begins to nip. He does it not to hurt you or your clothes, but for attention. BUnnies love attention. If while you read, you continue to stroke him, that should help. They think that when your holding him, your main goal is to play with him, so he nips ot remind you that he's still there and wants to be petted.

Hi, I have had rabbits. They chew everything. It is probably very comfortable with you. So it is not afraid to do what comes naturally to him.
