Once you get into the top 10 in college football, it's easier to stay there. Pete Carroll has a reputation for attracting top players at this point, so it's easy to guess that Southern California will be good for as long as he'll stay there. The head coach is such an important part of the process.
That said, there are other factors that could keep USC from playing for the national championship most of the time. Start out with another good team from the Pac 10, such as UCLA or Arizona State. Then, a couple of injuries to key people could give USC a down year, which might leave the Trojans scrambling for a while.
But overall, you probably can count on teams such as Florida, USC, Ohio State, Texas, etc. being good year after year for the time being.

The University of Miami won 4 national championships in 10 years. So, using their success as a model. I would say we will see an end to their "dynasty" in about 4 years. If head Coach Pete Carroll gets bored, then he might do a Bill Cowher, and just walk away. You also have to consider the other outstanding coaches and programs in the country, such as Urban Meyer at Florida, and Jim Tressel at Ohio State.U
USC does not recruit or play in a vacuum. The other two schools mentioned, plus maybe LSU, Auburn, and Texas, have just as good a shot at being consistently outstanding as does USC.
Their alleged dynasty received a big boost two years ago.
Remember Matt Leinart fumbled the football against Notre Dame with 7 seconds to go at the one yard line.s If that ball stays in bounds, or goes out of bounds in the end zone THREE FEET away, Notre Dame wins, and there is no talk of any dynasty. Its a fine line. USC is consistently outstanding. But didn't they lose TWO games this year., one to a lousy UCLA team? NO dynasty in that performance

A LONG LONG time....
If they keep bringing in QBs like they have been.. and keep bringing in RBs.. (which they recruited the top RB in the country).. They're going to last... and when they recruit those RBs.. they recruit OLs to protect them... USC is going to be on top for a while now.. so sit down, buckle up.. and try your best to enjoy the scenery
Oh.. by the way.. to the gator bandwagoners that amazing now show themselves after they win the championship... florida wont do anything.. and they shouldn't have been in the NC to begin with... soooo... wake up and come back to the real world, please..

I'd say for quite a while, they're always near the top in recruiting and that's always a big deal. As long as you're attracting the biggest, the baddest, and the best from around the country, how can you possibly lose games?

USC doesn't play in a really tough league and Florida proved it this past championship when they blew them away. the s.e.c. is a far Superior conference and its because of teams in the s.e.c. that usc is no longer a real threat.
