Yes, as long as you have your Freeview box connected to the aerial which then plugs into the video.
If you connect the Freeview box directly to the TV, you won't be able to record using the video. If you have an integrated digital TV, you will have to use the SCART Out lead to connect to the video.
In either case, you will only be able to record what the Freeview box/IDTV is tuned to - unless you get a second box, you won't be able to record one channel while watching another.
The best option is to get one of the new Freeview hard disk recorders.

Your VCR will not work for recording after the switch off. Even if you buy a Freeview box your VCR is not equipped to record a digital signal. I'm afraid you'll have to buy a Freeview hard drive recorder. Check out the new one from Thomson.

Yes, it will provided that it is receiving its signal via a digibox. However, while "steam telly" is being broadcast, you can record that and watch a digital channel at the same time. When analogue TV is phased out, you will only be able to record what you are watching. Few digiboxes allow you to watch one digital channel and record another.

By 2012 (for my area) most existing DVD and VCR boxes will be clapped out and we will be buying cheap DVD boxes with built-in Freeview tuners.

Probably. The video is probably designed so that you can still tape on the timer, so as long as it's switched on at the wall it should be OK.
