It angers me that people have compared Rose with Jackson. Don't people understand that Pete never threw a game so he could win a bet. He was above .500 as a manager. He loved the Reds, and Cincinnati. His gambling habits were serious, but they never affected his team on the field. What do you think.

SHOELESS JOE DID NOT CHEAT!! He was the one not throwing the Series - that is why it is EIGHT MEN OUT. Because Shoeless Joe was the ninth, and he did not throw the Series.
There is no comparison. Get it right.

I am sorry to say that there is no difference between the two. They both are done in by the their assocation with gambling. Yes I agree that I never saw anything that looked like Rose did not play at full speed. His managing looked good as well. However the problem is no except Rose knows if he ever did anything to win a bet throwing a game. All we know is what he has said and over the years that has changed .
As for the comparison with Shoeless Joe. It is pretty much the same. It is known that Jackson took the gamblers money to throw the series . However nothing in his play shows any indcation that helped throw a game. He had no errors in the field . Also for all the player on both the Reds and the BlackSoxes who play eight games . Jackson Stats were .

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS
8 32 5 12 3 0 1 6 1 2 .375 .394 .563 .957

Just about all of these stats were the highs for the series. With other players throwing the games.

The bottom line is gambling in sport can not be linked because the only people who know the 100% truth are the gamblers themselves. So both are guilty of dealing in the gambling world and both were banned from the game.

This is sad because the Hall of is where these guys belong.

I don't know it makes no sense to me. The biggest thing is that he bet on his team to win. He bet on every single game i read today on espn.com. Having confidence in your team is something that everybody should have. Shoeless Joe and those black sox threw the world series! That is completely different from pete rose. I really think rose deserves to be in the hall of fame, he has more hits than anybody in the history of baseball! Rose played the game the right way, was a perfect example of someone who would do anything for his team.

It angers me that anyone compares Rose with Jackson because Rose is scum, he bet on and against the Reds - he's a liar and will never admit it. Jackson was under financial hardship took money and didn't throw the series. Every excuse in the world has been made for Rose and the fact is it's BOGUS. He deserved the lifetime ban he got but people still refuse to see him for what he is;stop making a martyr out of him, it doesn't fit.

And he always bet on the Reds! Do you actually believe him when he says that? Why didn't he say that in the past? He was the damn manager and he's making bets he easily could have affected the outcome even more so than the player. The comparison of Rose to Jackson is that both put money ahead of their teams and hurt the integrity of the game which is wrong.

I do not know. The claims that Shoeless Joe was in on the Black Sox scandal are ludicrous. The guy's stats were very solid during the 1919 Series, he didn't play like he was trying to lose.

Then, when he faced a criminal trial in the matter, he was found NOT GUILTY. This mattered not to Commissioner Landis, who apparently saw himself as greater than the law and banned Jackson anyway.

So there is no comparison -- Rose was a cheat, Shoeless Joe was not.

How do you know that Rose never threw a game? How naive can you get? Didn't you ever hear the old staying that "Absolute power corrupts absolutely"? The only thing Pete Rose loved was himself. The only thing that ever meant anything to him was his own stats. You need a reality check. Both Rose and Jackson cheated and their reward will be that neither will ever be inducted into the hall of fame. End of story!

It's pretty simple. Rose bet on baseball while an employee of baseball. Every clubhouse from the lowest minor leagues to the major leagues has a list of rules posted and #1 on that list is "No Betting on Baseball." It doesn't say "No Betting Against Your Team." No one doubts his love of the game and the Reds, but he broke the cardinal rule of the sport.

Jackson was involved at least to the extent he didn't speak up when he knew what was going on. Just because someone is found innocent in a courtroom doesn't make him innocent.

Joe Jackson was found innocent by a court of law. He was banned by Kenasaw Landis. Rose and Jackson should both be in the hall of fame.

I never understood Pete Rose's punishment. My understanding is that he never gambled on baseball.
