In a small town the best places are the mom and pop diners. Or sometimes the cheesiest hole in the wall diners. They seem to have the best food because it isn't as commercialized and promoted.

So, to answer your question...the best meal would be the daily special. Or if you are not that adventurous then get the cheeseburger and fries.

Breakfast is the best meal to eat in a small town. Small little diners have great breakfasts.

Ask the locals. They'll know the food and reputation of the restaurant. If you happen to be in the midwest, try the hot beef. White bread, roast beef, mashed potatoes, and beef gravy poured all over it. It's huge and good.
