I have a pair of silver looking hoop earrings that look dirty...They are not sterling silver, they're the fake kind you buy at Claire's :-). Does anyone know if they can be cleaned or do they have to be thrown away :-(? Thanks a lot!

I suggest you to try some new ones. Because your old earrings are not the real silver, it will get worse after cleaning. I can teach you a very easy way to clean the silver earrings. You can do it by yourself. You can use a toothbrush, extruding some toothpaste on it, brushing the earrings very carefully. You will find your silver items become shining very quickly. And then you need to wash it in the water, and dry it with soft cloth. The real silver items will easy get oxygenated in the air no matter you wear it or not. So you need to clean it very often. But silver is the symbol of pure and pretty. I found some beautiful silver earrings, would you like to see?

no you cant clean them. If their just a cheap pair then the earrings plating will have came off. then the metal underneath with oxidise(rust) and that will be the end of that, (because it could infect the hole in the lobe of your ear) which it proberly already is.
Dont take this as gospel unless the "dirt" is like small patchs that make a tiny crater in the earring.

just buy a jewelry cleaner at a drugstore...just dip the earrings in for a few seconds...works like a charm.
