My turtle is an adolescent, I think. He is about a year and a half, 4 inches long. I have had him for roughly 7 months and he is now starting to gain a larger appetite. I want to take advantage of this change and offer him healthier foods that he didn't really even acknowledge before. I know vegetables are good for him, but he wouldn't eat them... until now. What can I offer him?

Most pond turtles, like Red-ears, start off as carnivores and become more omnivorous as they grow older and slower.

The most common veggies they will eat are dark leafy greens- either lightly cooked to help them sink a little, or held in a fish-type veggie clip under the water. Besides greens, try slices of carrots, pieces of squash, aquarium plants, etc.

not lettuce apples or peeled carrots...its an aquatic turtle not a tortise.
Tucker is my RES..I have had him now for about 7 years. He likes cooked and cooled diced carrots...the frozen kind are ok, dandelion greens that have been boiled and cooled, frozen peas that are cooked and then cooled, and spinach cooked to a boil then cooled. remember that aquatic turtles can only eat in the water. If you only had "him" for seven months and "he" is already 4 inches long and "he" is only a year and a half old then your he is probably a she. They grow faster and larger then the males. Shaz
