I was in the shower and I had my little one in her toy by the door. I stepped out of the shower and my smoke/carbon monoxide alarm was going off ( sounded like a loud car horn). So I threw on a towel and got my little one outside. I noticed that there was this really funcky smell in the house and the air was really heavy. There was no fire or any smoke. About after 5 min. it finally shut off. See I have a floor furniace, so not sure if that is what was causing this. I am scared that it might off detected some carbon monoxide. I looked threw my book for the alarm and it says nothing about the sound that I heard, just beeps. So has this ever happend to anyone?? And what can I do to make sure my house is still a safe place to be excpessally for my little one. Also I have a cat and he was in the house. This happend on Sat. and today is Wed. and he is really sick. Won't eat really weak, eyes are matting shut and his drull is kindoff sticky like. So could that be from the smell

You need to call the fire dept. and your landlord ASAP. Don't mess around with that. Many people die every year because of gas and other leaks. Be safe, don't take any chances.
Good luck.

carbon monoxide causes death by binding to red blood cells and prohibiting oxygen binding (and delivery) so it is unlikely that this is the cause of your cat's sicknesses. However, call ur fire martial because CO is deadly!

Call the fire department and tell them what's going on. They should check your residence. Also, where we live the utility company will inspect and adjust your furnace for free.
