why did it read low battery after buying a new 1 and installing it

dalmatic is correct.

Shaun M is completely wrong although the battery does keep your clock settings, it also keeps the CMOS settings. the ones that tell your motherboard and subsequently your operating system things like what kind and size hard drive you have in your system for example.

to test it, take out the battery and hit the power button. don't worry it wont damage your computer. it wont turn on.

A few reasons as follows:

A defective battery
Bad connection to the battery holder
Bad connection from the battery holder to the motherboard
Could be a bios error
Defective motherboard

Hi,did you place the battery in the right way (with the lettering facing you).If you have,then it could be a faulty battery or dirty contacts.Also,check to see if the battery is seated correctly in the battery holder.

you really dont need a batter it is just used for your clock and stuff like that I had mine out for 7 days cause it told me that i had low battery plus check and make sure there is a good connection if it is the right way and or say bye bye to your mobo
